Visitation will be Tuesday evening, July 31st from 6-8 pm at the Lester First Church of God, Hoo Hoo Hollow Road.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 1st at 11:00 am at the church with Rev Tony Bailey officiating.

Victor T. Birchfield

Victor T. Birchfield, 95, of Lester, West Virginia entered his heavenly home on Saturday July 28th, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Victor was born November 5th, 1922 to parents Wilburn and Nancy Goode-Birchfield, both deceased.  Also, preceding him in death were his sisters Hettie, Violet, Enice, Ica, Elizabeth, infant sister Joy as well as brothers Ray, Earnest, and Earl.  Victor was the last remaining member of his immediate family.

Victor was raised on a mountain top farm near Maben in Wyoming County.

He joined the CCCs as a teenager and soon thereafter joined the U.S. Army.  He was stationed in California during the Pearl Harbor attack.  And as a member of Patton’s Third Army, he fought in France and Germany.

Discharged from the Army in 1945, Victor returned home and soon married his partner of nearly 72 years, Ethel Keaton Birchfield.  They had three sons, Joe (Karen), Dale (Reta), and Denny (Vicki).  In addition, they raised a special Niece, Betty Dillon Demchak.

Victor spent 22 years as a coal miner and a member of the UMWA.  He co-owned Birchfield Brothers Service Station at Lester with his brother Earl for several years.

Victor became a Raleigh County Sheriff’s Deputy in January 1969, and retired after 15 years of service.

He served as Sunday School Superintendent at Lester First Church of God for several years.

Victor was an avid hunter and fisherman til the end.

Other than his wife and children, Victor is survived by nine grandchildren:  Christina, Jeff, David, Lincoln, Victor II, Staci, Jarrod, Steven, and Joshua.  He is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren.

Burial will follow at Lilly Crews Cemetery at Nimitz.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
