Timothy (Tim) Wayne Hamrick
November 5, 1981- June 29, 2018

It is with a heavy heart that we the family of Timothy (Tim) Wayne Hamrick, of Beckley announce his passing at the age of 36. Tim died at the Martinsburg Veteran’s Administration Medical Center following a long illness.

Tim was the son of Jennifer Moore Hamrick and Gary Hamrick of Beckley and the brother of Bethany Kirby and husband Todd. He is also survived by a nephew, Eli Bridges Kirby. Additional survivors include his uncle, Ashby Hambrick and wife Florence; aunts, Barbara Mills, Betty Tilley and husband Calvin, Joyce Bowden and husband David, and an aunt who he was especially close to, Judy Hatcher and her husband Pete. In addition, Tim is survived by several cousins. He had a special closeness with cousins Dana Tilley and Teresa Adkins. He is survived by numerous friends that he met locally, as well as during his military career. He has been described by his friends as a funny, kind and genuine friend. To quote one of his closest friends, Tim enjoyed more fun times and great friendships than many who lived twice his age.

Tim graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 2000. He was compassionate about helping other people, whether it be part of his job or just spending time helping his friends sort through personal situations. After high school he provided direct care services in a residential setting for individuals with developmental disabilities. Then in 2003 he enlisted in the Air Force where he worked as a mental health technician. In 2007, he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and was deployed to Iraq with the Army to provide mental health support. In honor of his service in Iraq he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for exceptional service. Tim continued his career with the Air Force until 2012 at which time he developed a serious medical condition which ended his career. He returned to Beckley to be close to family in 2014.
