Services will be held on Thursday August 9, 2018 at 12:30 PM at Melton’s Funeral Home in Beckley, WV with Reverend Garry Hall of Eccles First Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive family and friends at Melton’s one hour prior to the service.

Mary Elizabeth Dwier

Mary Elizabeth Spencer Dwier, 86, of Beckley, WV, entered the arms of her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ on August 6, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House.  Born September 5, 1931 in Oak Hill, WV, she was the daughter of Oather P. Spencer and Goldie Ferrell Spencer.

She grew up in Eccles, WV with her parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers and graduated from Trap Hill High School in 1949.

She married Carl Dwier February 28, 1949 and they had three children.  November of 1959 they moved to Bladensburg, MD. She went to work for National Geographic Society in 1960 in member services and retired in 1993.  She and Carl then relocated to Beckley, WV.

Mary was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.  She was active in her local church in Bladensburg – teaching and singing in the choir and after returning to WV she enjoyed the fellowship of Eccles First Baptist Church.  Mary enjoyed reading, painting, watching the Washington Redskins and spending time with friends and family.  Mary will be remembered as a wise, caring, and giving Christian woman.  She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.

Mary Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Dessa Lee Spencer Lester Edwards (Hoyle); daughter, Elizabeth A. Wilson (Phillip) and son Danny L. Dwier; her grandchildren: James E. Deakins, JR, Gina M.Dwier Zackoski (JJ), Jennifer E. Deakins, Thomas P Dwier, Joshua D. Dwier, Kristen D. Dwier and Lori L. Buchanan Wilson; 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mary Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Carl Dwier, her oldest son Carl D. Dwier, her grandson Phillip T. Wilson, her brothers Leonard Spencer, Oather P. Spencer JR, and Noel Spencer, her sisters Norman Jean Spencer Bland, Drema Gay Tabor Haley McKay and JoAnn Spencer Graves.

Services will be held on Thursday August 9, 2018 at 12:30 PM at Melton’s Funeral Home in Beckley, WV with Reverend Garry Hall of Eccles First Baptist Church officiating.
