Robert Malcom Schlager

Robert Malcolm Schlager, 64, of Beckley, WV, went to his heavenly home on February 9, 2018, following a long illness.

Born December 30, 1953, at Stevens Clinic Hospital in Welch, WV, he was the son of the late Robert Lee “Bobby” Schlager and the late Norma Eileen Schlager, both of Glen Fork, WV.

Malcolm was a 1972 graduate of Glen Rogers High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Concord College and later a Master’s Degree from Marshall University. Throughout his career in the coal mining industry, he worked for Consol, Affinity, Eastern Associated, and Peabody Coal Companies. Most of his thirty years were spent in management. His years as a safety director and member of a mine safety rescue team were special to him. Due to his health, he was disabled in 1996.

Malcolm was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Beckley, WV. He loved God, family, and friends. His hobbies were Nascar, woodworking, golfing, snow skiing, and waterskiing.

Survivors include his loving, devoted wife, Patricia Faye Barker Schlager; a daughter, Jessica Faith Harvey and her fiancée, James Dickens, also of Beckley; a grandson, Tyler Christian Harvey; a granddaughter, Aislynne MacKenzie Harvey; a sister, Tammie (Dickie) Cook of Stonewood, WV; a brother-in-law, Jimmy (Christine) Barker; a sister-in-law, Karen (Randy) Moore; and many loved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jim Phillips, David Powers, Tyler Harvey, Randy Moore, Noah Moore, James Dickens, and Harold Wilburn.
