Hazel June Fama

On Friday, January 19th, 2018, our most cherished, June Fama passed peacefully into eternal rest.    She was in her 88th year.

The youngest of five children, Hazel June Austin was born on February 17th, 1929, in Morgantown.   She was the daughter of Charles and Lottie Sharps Austin.   In addition to her parents, her brothers, Bernard, Clarence and Ralph have preceded her in death as well.   June is the dear sister of Clara Jane Austin of Morgantown.

June’s childhood was spent at Morgantown, where she graduated from Morgantown High School in 1948.  June began a career in retail and settled in Charleston, West Virginia where she worked in shoe sales for the Fama family of Beckley.   June would meet one of the Fama brothers, Patsy and as they say, “The rest is history.”  June and Patsy were married on January 20th, 1962.    To their union would be born one daughter, Linda Catherine.   The family would make their home on Mankin Avenue in Beckley and they worshipped at St. Francis de Sales Church.   This past Saturday, January 20th, the day after June’s passing would have been she and Patsy’s 56th wedding anniversary.    Patsy Fama passed on July 28th, 2011, and now, “Oh Glad Reunion.”

June is the beloved mother of Linda Catherine Biggs and her husband, Bobby who will forever cherish her memory.   June was also blessed with a large extended family on the Austin and Fama sides.

Bobby and Linda would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the excellent care provided by the administration and staff of Hilltop Nursing Center, where June has resided since March of 2016.   She was very content there and that made a world of difference to Linda and Bobby that she was happy.
