John D. Archer

On Friday, September 7th, 2018, our most cherished, John D. Archer of Arcanum, Ohio passed away following a long illness.  He was 78 years of age.

A native of Tommy Creek, “JD” as he was affectionately known was born John David Archer on February 17th, 1940.  He was the son of the late Brady and Maude Collins Archer.  His sisters, Frances and Louise have passed.   A brother, Earl survives of Somerset, Kentucky.

John spent his childhood at Tommy Creek.  He was a graduate of Stoco High School and was a proud Veteran of the US Marine Corps.  In 1957 John would marry a Josephine native, Mary Bell Bolen.  John and Mary had known each other since childhood.   To their union would be born three children, John Jr., James and Vickie.

The family settled in Arcanum, Ohio where John worked for Trans World Airlines (American Airlines) for 37 years.   In 2001 they would endure the loss of John Jr.   The family always made several faithful visits each year back to see their West Virginia family.   In June of 2015, Mary Bell passed away following a brief illness.

Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted children, son, James and his wife, Amy and their children, Emma, Sydney and Jarrod; daughter, Vickie Hawkey and the late Keith Taylor and their children, Brandon, Sarah, Joshua, Keith and Mary.  Two sisters-in-law, Zina Bolen and Louise Meadows survive as well as a large extended family.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 12th at 11:00 am in the Melton Mortuary Chapel.   The burial will be in the Jenny Cole Cemetery at Odd where John will be laid to rest beside Mary Bell and John Jr. and now, “Oh Glad Reunion.”   The family will receive friends at 10:00 am on Wednesday at the mortuary.
