Funeral services will be Sunday, January 28, 2018, at 3 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Michael Sisson and Rev. Scott Dameron officiating. The family is receiving friends from 1 pm – 3 pm.

Jacqueline G. Canaday

Jacqueline “Jackie” Canaday, 72, of MacArthur went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.

Born on May 17, 1945, in Berwind, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Spence and Alma Fitzpatrick Spence. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Jackie grew up in Canebrake and on the Fitzpatrick family farm in MacArthur. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School. Over the years, she worked in medical records at Appalachian Regional Medical Center, in administration at Gates Engineering, and for many years for her cousin and close friend, Ralph Prince at the Webb’s of Beckley Florist before retiring to spend her time with her grandchildren.

She was a life-long member of the Crab Orchard Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, gardening, genealogy, and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her half brother, Joseph David Spence, and her half sisters, Lucy Holman, Azalea Large, and Ann Jones.

Those left to cherish her memory, include her loving husband of 48 years, James Craig Canaday, her son, Jim Canaday and his wife Kristi of Beckley, her daughter, Catherine Canaday Harless of Crab Orchard, and her grandchildren whom she loved so dearly, Brandon and Allyson Canaday and Emma and Ella Harless.

Pallbearers include Tim Darnell, Stephen Fitzpatrick, Alden Dale Fitzpatrick, Robbie Worrells, Allen Moye, and Ray Miller. Honorary pallbearers include Brandon Canaday and Tommy Darnell.

Funeral services will be Sunday, January 28, 2018, at 3 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Michael Sisson and Rev. Scott Dameron officiating. The family is receiving friends from 1 pm – 3 pm.   Jackie will be laid to rest in the Fitzpatrick family cemetery in MacArthur.

The family would like to thank all of her caregivers, especially her nurse Renae Hash, the wonderful staff at Bowers Hospice House, and Kim Stafford at Harper Mills.
