Pearl Rogers

Emma Pearl Rogers passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Bowers Hospice House after an extended illness. Pearl was born in Mabscott on Nov. 27, 1928, and lived her entire life on Chestnut St. Called “Auntie Pearl” by all her family, neighbors, and friends, she was the daughter of the late John Earl Rogers and Grace Worley. She was preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Seifert; her brothers, Hobert Rogers and Russell Rogers; two sisters that died in infancy; and nephews, Dennis Seifert and Bryan Seifert.

Left to cherish her memory is her niece, Sherry Rogers of Mabscott and nephews, Eric Rogers and his wife, Amber of Beckley, and Michael Rogers of Carlsbad, California.

A 1946 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Pearl worked for over 40 years at G. C. Murphy Co. in downtown Beckley. She played softball for the store team and was an avid bowler evidenced by all the trophies she has stacked around her house. In her later years she enjoyed gardening and reading. Weather permitting, she could always be found out in the yard planting flowers and cutting grass in her big floppy straw hat. She was happiest at her house and would live nowhere else. She was fiercely proud of her West Virginia roots and could tell you some wonderful stories of growing up in Mabscott. She will be dearly missed by all her knew and loved her.

The family thanks the nurses and staff at the Raleigh General Hospital CCU for the wonderful care provided. And a special thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Bowers Hospice House. She was able to leave this world with dignity and grace.
