Danny Tolliver
In the early morning hours of Monday, February 12th, 2018, our most cherished, Danny Tolliver passed away in the comfort of his home at Bolt surrounded by his loving family. He was in his 82nd year. Husband, father, grandfather, Pa Pa, good neighbor and most of all, a soft spoken child of God, Danny had fought a long and hard battle with cancer.

The youngest of six children, Danny was born on February 3rd, 1936, at Mullens. He was the son of Dan and Ada Clay Tolliver. Along with his parents, brothers, Clyde, Jim, Woodrow and Murrell and his only sister, Janice Meadows have all preceded him in death.

Danny spent his childhood at Saulsville, graduating from Glen Rogers High School in 1954. His mining career began at the mines in Maben. He retired from Peabody Coal at Sundial with a total of 39 years in the mining industry. Danny was a member of the UMWA.

In 1956, Danny would marry a Bolt native, Martha Stanley. To their union was born two sons, Kenneth Earl and Jeffery Clay. The family worshiped at the Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church. After faith and family, Danny’s great love was farming. It was in his heart and soul. He and Martha have made their home at Bolt on Martha’s childhood farm for the past 55 years. This coming March 30th, Danny and Martha would have celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Soft spoken, a man of few words, but with a sharp wit, Danny enjoyed the solitude that is afforded in the quiet times of hunting and fishing.

Danny leaves behind his family that will forever cherish his memory. In addition to Martha, he leaves his sons and their families, Kenny and his wife, Della; Jeff and his wife, Mary Alice and their children and grandchildren. Danny was the dear “PaPa” of Greg and Autumn Tolliver, Jason Tolliver and his wife Steffanie and Jessica Dunbar and her husband, Charlie . He was the proud great grandfather of Kaeli, Saydee, Ashlin, Dannylinn and Walker. There is a large extended family of Tollivers as well as Martha’s brother, Sam Stanley and his wife, Theresa.

We are country people at Bolt and we know the harshness of weather on the back roads. Due to the heavy rains lately, Danny’s burial will be a private affair at the Family Cemetery on the farm. He will be taken to his final rest on his tractor. The honor of carrying Danny has been given to Sammy Acord, Kimmie Hall, Danny Birchfield, Doug and Ronnie Tolliver and Newman Dye. Larry Wright will be an honorary pallbearer.

Special thanks to the girls at Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

In the end, all we leave is our name. Danny Tolliver, that quiet soft spoken farmer at Bolt has now left his. May he forever rest at peace. God Bless Danny.
