A “Service of Remembrance” will be Monday, November 26th at 8:00 pm in the Church of the Brethren at Crab Orchard. Our pastor, Norman Hamn will be officiating assisted by Jim Campbell and Karl Reese The visitation will be from 6 to 8pm Monday evening at the church. The burial will follow on Tuesday morning at 11:00 am in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Arnold Deck was born on October 11th, 1931, to Ezra J. and Thelma Leona Gamble Deck at Crab Orchard, West Virginia. He went to see his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 23rd, 2018, at the Charleston Area Medical Center.
Arnold married Lily Ailene Deck on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th, 1955, at the Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren.
To their union was born two sons, Mark Allen Deck on February 8th, 1958 and Kevin Ray Deck, November 15th, 1960. Tracy Lynn Cross is their daughter.
Preceding Arnold in death were his parents, Ezra and Thelma Deck and sister, Marion Deck Tolbert.
Arnold worked at 7-UP Bottling Company and Candy Corey Company before being employed at Raleigh Glass and Mirror. His Dad told him to try to get employment with a utility company which he did and was hired in 1955 by C&P Telephone Company, later known as Verizon Communications. He retired from Verizon with 38 ½ years in April of 1994. Arnold had 34 years of perfect attendance with Verizon. He will be remembered as a great worker and with diligence and reliability. Upon his retirement he was honored with a retirement party and a beautiful Grandfather clock! Telbec Credit Union gave him a beautiful gift at the annual dinner, a 2 seat glider rocker made by the Amish.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife, Ailene are his sons, Mark and wife, Janet Donaldson Deck, Kevin and wife Debra Canterbury Deck; grandchildren, Corey Deck, Kara Deck, Chase Deck, Chelsea Hicks and Madison Deck; a sister, Janet Lyons and a large extended family.
Arnold was an outgoing person. A Christian, he sang with the Gospel Tones along with his wife, Ailene, Rita Harper, Arnold Bailey, Charles Asbury, Jerry Neal, James Asbury and Duke Maynor.
Arnold loved people and went to the Church of the Brethren all his life. This past November 24th, Arnold and Ailene were married 63 wonderful years. He was always active in Christian work and took a shipload of cattle to war torn Germany in 1951 for the Heifer Project.

The honor of carrying Arnold has been given to Corey Deck, Chase Deck, Wayne Tolbert, Greg Pugh, Paul Brunk, Frank Holt, Roger Sarrett and Josh Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be George Taylor, Ronald Stover and Jerry Wilson.
“How beautiful everyone has been to us during this great loss. Melton Mortuary has been wonderful. I want them to take care of me when I move on to my earthly temple.” Love, Ailene and family.
