Jimmy Lee Saunders

Jimmy "Jim" Lee Saunders, 84 years old of Beckley, West Virginia passed peacefully into eternity on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, at Bowers Hospice House with his loving daughter, Jennifer by his side.

The oldest of two children, he was born on July 9th, 1939. He was the beloved son of Hubert Laurie and Mildred Green Saunders of Lake Butler, Florida. He grew up in Middle Burg and Jacksonville, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Betty Jean Saunders, both parents and his sister, Brenda Pfeiffer.

Those left to cherish his memory, his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Saunders of Beckley; Jeff Miller and family of Beckley; sister-in-law, Juanita Hatcher of Charlotte, North Carolina; and extended family to include cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jim graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with a Bachelor's degree in Biology.

From school, Jim was a Green Beret in the United States Army for two years, then served in the Vietnam War and the US Army Reserves for ten years.

He settled in Beckley, West Virginia. Jim was a pharmaceutical representative at a small company named Park-Davis now known as Pfizer.

In 1968, he married Betty Jean Shrader, the love of his life in Glen White, West Virginia. They were blessed with one daughter, Jennifer Lynn.

Jim was a member of the Glenn-White Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Bible Baptist Church in MacArthur, West Virginia as a devoted Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Pastor Sam Green will officiate at a celebration of Jim's life in the Melton Mortuary chapel. Visitation is from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral service begins at 1:00 pm followed by a short ceremony before his entombment in the mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Bob Hatcher, Greg Graef, Jason Hess, John Lynch, Kenny Shrader, Larry Spence and Tom
Hatcher.
