Vickie Elizabeth Baird Soltes

2nd Timothy 4:7, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.

On Friday, December 29th, 2017, with her beloved and devoted husband, George by her side, Vickie Soltes passed peacefully into eternity.   She was 64 years of age.

The youngest of two children, Vickie Elizabeth Baird was born on May 8th, 1953, in Beckley.   She was the daughter of the late Emmet and Gloria Young Baird.

Vickie spent her childhood on Sixth Street, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1971. She had a long career with the City of Beckley as the secretary of the Street Department.     On August 4th, 1973, she married the love of her life, George Soltes. Vickie and George have celebrated 44 years of marriage.   To their union was born two children, Cindy Ann and Phillip Andrew.   The Soltes family worshiped at St. Francis de Sales Church.

Two things come to mind when we remember Vickie Soltes, her love of family and her awesome courage during her lifelong journey with juvenile diabetes. Diagnosed at the age of 4, Vickie was a testament of faith and patience during her long battle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all her many friends at Camp Nocoma, a juvenile diabetic camp at Hinton, West Virginia.   She was the last survivor of the camp. And now, Oh Glad Reunion.

In addition to George, she leaves to cherish her memory her children and their families.   She was the loving mother of Cindy Ann Gibson and her husband, Justin of Milton, West Virginia and Phillip Andrew Soltes and his wife, Melanie of Lexington, South Carolina.   Vickie was the proud and doting “Ma Maw” to her three grandchildren, James and Thomas Gibson and Cooper Soltes.   A brother, Larry Baird and his wife Linda survive as well.

The Soltes family would like to thank at this time the Mackey and Kirby families, Rev. Mr. William Donald Wise and Joe Soltes.   God bless all of you for your many kindness to our dear Vickie.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 2nd at 10:30 am at St. Francis de Sales Church. The Very Rev. Fr. Paul Wharton V.F. will be the celebrant. The honor of carrying Vickie has been given to Rod Bryner, Rick Bryner, Frank Kirby, Jim Kirby, Chris Meek and Steve Tomalewski.

And so now we give our sweet Vickie back to God.   Free at last, Peace at last, what a most noble spirit she was among us.   May Vickie forever rest in peace.
