Romey Jack Canada left this mortal home, which he was just passing through, on August 9, 2017 at the age of 83, to cast his crowns at Jesus' feet, and to sing praises to his Lord for eternity. He was born in Maben, WV; the son of the late Cecil A. Canada and Zettie Clay Canada. Jack served 21 and a half years in the United States Air Force. Serving in Guam, the Philippines, Germany, Africa, Turkey, and Europe; among several other destinations. He was one of our soldiers who served a year in Vietnam. After retiring the family returned home to West Virginia. He worked at Fairchild Incorporated . He finished his non-military career at Phillips Machine Services.
He loved hunting, fishing and camping. He collected clocks while he served in the service. After retiring he was an avid beekeeper and loved teaching about his hobby.
He loved going to church and serving the Lord as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. One of his favorite ministries was Vacation Bible School, and he enjoyed going to Camp Meeting Revivals. Jack was loved and respected by many friends and family. Those left to be greeted at the gates of heaven are his beloved wife of 62 years, Frances Shrewsbury Canada. Also surviving are his children Charlotte Canada Ransom (David Ransom) of Rainelle, Karen Canada Lilly (Roscoe Lilly) of Statesville NC, Zettie Canada Staley (Mark Staley) of Bethlehem GA, and Cecil J. Canada (Mary Conrad) of Beaver. Nine grandchildren: Roscoe Joseph Lilly, Aaron Ransom, Tiffany Boone, Delilah Burns, Mark Douglas Staley, Rebecca Staley, Austin Ransom, Zechariah Canada, and Autumn Canada; 10 Great-Grandchildren: Jonas, Wyatt, Rylie, and Kendall Ransom; Calix Burns; Kaitrin and Aiden Boone; Annabelle, Adeline and Rykard Lilly. Also surviving are sisters Shirley Keaton and Connie Snuffer.
The family will receive friends on Friday August 11, 2017 from 6 Pm to 8:30 PM at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be Saturday At Melton Mortuary Chapel at 11:00 AM. Jack will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, West Virginia with military honors. Pallbearers will be: Roscoe Lilly II, Douglas Staley, Austin Ransom, Aaron Ransom, Roger Sisk, Robert Littreal, Cecil Canada, and Zechariah Canada. Honorary Pallbearers are Dan Shadd and John Brennaman.
