Minnie Mae Green

On Friday, September 8th, 2017, our most loved, Minnie Mae Green passed away at the Bowers Hospice House.   She was 92 years young.

One of three children, Minnie Mae Shunk was born on February 28th, 1925, at Sun, West Virginia.   She was the daughter of Fred and Lillian Barker Shunk.  Her brother, Jim Shunk and sister, Joyce Perry have preceded her in death.

Minnie Mae spent her childhood at Eccles and attended Trap Hill High School.   She was a long time member of the Memorial Baptist Church, where she hosted a Women’s Bible Study for many years.  Minnie Mae had a great love for animals and always took in any stray cat that came to her home.   She was known for her impeccable dress, always wore a hat and her beauty, in her heart as well as her appearance.   Minnie Mae made wonderful pies and cakes and loved socializing with her friends and church family.

Minnie Mae was first married to C.W. Crews Jr. the father of her two sons, Fred and Donnie.   Sadly, C.W. would die at a young age.   Minnie Mae would find happiness again with Johnny Green.   She and Johnny have celebrated 50 years of marriage this year.   Minnie and Johnny have a wonderful life together.   Minnie Mae has faced her challenges, she is the last survivor of the Shunk family and her son, Fred passed away on July 3rd, 2011, after a long illness.

In addition to Johnny she leaves to cherish her memory, her surviving son, Donnie Crews and his wife, Georgette of Nebraska; she was the doting grandmother of Tammy Crews and her husband, Scott Calhoun, Donnie Crews Jr. and Jody Crews; a great granddaughter, Bryn Calhoun; sister-in-law, Amelia Shunk as well as several nieces and nephews and her in-laws, Robert and Jessie Crews.
