Jerry Wayne Gunther

Jerry Wayne Gunther, 60, of MacArthur, passed away at Appalachian Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 13th, 2017, after a long illness.

Jerry was born on December 8th, 1956 at Beckley Hospital. He was the son of Charles Gunther and Lena Lively Gunther and was the older of their two children.

He graduated in the class of 1975 from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley and received his Associate Degree in engineering at Hagerstown Community College in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Loved by many, Jerry will be deeply missed by those who knew him. He was a man who had an infectious smile and always had a story to tell. He was an avid martial arts enthusiast with many years of practice. A creative-type who had an aptitude for music, he was skilled with the piano and guitar. He enjoyed history and could often be found reading one of his favorite books or watching one of his favorite movies. For many years, he was a volunteer coach for Beckley Little League.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Colonel Gunther and Bessie Mitchell Gunther, of Mt. Tabor, and William Lively and Pearl Nelson Lively, of Crab Orchard.

Those left to keep his memory alive include his son Erik Alexander Gunther, of Alexandria, Virginia; his step-daughter Nikole Rene Alliston, of Lakewood, Washington; his sister Sherri Gunther Thomas and her husband Gary Thomas, of Bradley; his niece Lindsey Thomas Naumann and her husband Chaz Naumann, of Morgantown; his nephew Jason Thomas and his wife Diana (Robinson] Thomas, of Honolulu Hawaii; and his four great-nephews Eli Naumann, Isaac Naumann, Luke Naumann, and Corbin Thomas
