Cindy’s “Service of Remembrance” will be Friday, August 25th at 2:00 pm at the Melton Mortuary Chapel.    The family will be receiving friends at 12 noon.

Cindy Gilkerson

Cindy Gilkerson, age 47, of Mt. Hope, WV, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017. She was born to the late Thomas Gilkerson and Almeda Rose Smith on November 19, 1969.

Cindy was a Mt. Hope Mustang, before attending Valley College, where she received an associate’s degree in business management.

Her children and grandchildren were Cindy’s passion and delight. She spent as much time with her grandchildren and children that she could. She called her grandchildren every evening just to say “I love you and Goodnight.”  She loved to play bingo with her best friend Tonya, and enjoyed scrabble with her best friend, Tab. She enjoyed scrapbooking in her spare down time. She enjoyed being around all of her “ole school” friends before she left us.  

Cindy is survived by her mother, Almeda “Rosie” Smith of Mt. Hope; her daughter, Sylvia Lewis–Dance (Michael) of Beckley; her daughter, Tea Gilkerson of Mt. Hope; her grandchildren, Michael and Molly Dance of Beckley; Aunts: Patty Craigo of Mt. Hope, Nellie Roberts( John) of Beckley, Brenda Kerr (Eddie) of Beckley, Carol Barclay (Mickie) of Beckley, Donna Bailey( Patrick)of Michigan, Angie Walker(Ernie) of North Carolina, Lana Rust(Tony) of  Virginia, Mary Shaffer of Tennessee; an uncle, Junior Colaiseno(Elaine) of Oak Hill and a special uncle, Bryan “Keith” Runion of Beckley. Cindy also had 4 very special friends, Tonya Jackson of Mt. Hope, Tabitha McCoy of Beckley, Laura Bell of Kilsyth and Shannon McDonald of Beckley, and she also leaves behind numerous loving cousins and friends. 

Cindy is preceeded in death by her father, Thomas Gilkerson, step father, Arthur Bennett, “Granny”, Betty Anne Colaiseno; another grandmother, Gladys Robinson; a tiny cousin, Joseph Scott Hosler and a childhood best friend, Cherice Gwin.   

Cindy requested a funeral service and cremation. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last illness.
