Chelsea Lynn Avis

It is again, with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we the Avis family of Mabscott announce the untimely passing of one our children, Chelsea Avis. Chelsea passed suddenly on Saturday, September 30th, 2017.   She was only 25 years of age.

The youngest of five children, Chelsea Lynn Avis was born on a Friday, September 25th, 1992.   She was the beloved daughter of Jimmy and Lisa Avis of Mabscott.   Chelsea’s older sister, Kerri Leigh died in 2005; her only, brother, Mikal Thomas preceded her in death in 2015.

Chelsea spent her childhood at Mabscott, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 2011.

Words at this time are hard to come by, because we are so hurt.   “Chelsea,” is an old English name by origin, and perhaps, that best sums up this sweet child.   She was in many ways, “An Old Soul.” For she loved being a mother to her daughter, Makayla Lynn; the simple things in life, family togetherness and being in the outdoors would make her happy.

Her smile would light up a room when she entered…Chelsea always had that welcoming smile. We like to think now, that will be our guiding light to Heaven. “Oh, Chelsea we are going to miss you so. You will be missed by all who knew you. ”

In addition to her parents, and daughter, Chelsea leaves to cherish her memory others that loved her so very much, among her dear nieces, and nephew, is her late brother’s daughter, Kharma Jade, that special gift from God. After Mikal’s passing, she had made her home with Chelsea; she was the sweet sister of Jessica Bearfield and husband, David of Clay County and Missy Copen and husband, Rickey of Greenbrier County; niece and nephew, Madison and Matthew of whom she was very proud.

There is a large extended family and circle of friends, among them her “sister of the heart,” Katie Hightower.

On Friday, October 6th at 8:00 pm we will honor Chelsea’s life with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Buz Keller will be officiating. The family is receiving friends at 6:00 pm.

And so now, we must say goodbye…. We, her family and friends are at loss to understand….

When night fall comes and we look up at the sky, we shall see among the stars, Kerri, Mikal and now Chelsea.   We shall always look up, not down and remember….all of you are in our hearts, God speed until we all meet again.
