Betty Zane Grose Harrison

On Tuesday, August 15th,2017,our most loved, Betty Zane Harrison went to be with the Lord after a prolonged illness.   She was in her 87th year.

One of 18 children, Betty Zane Grose was born on April 23rd, 1930, at Crumpler.   She was the daughter of the late Henry and Sadie Lambert Grose.   Sixteen of her brothers and sisters have passed;  her only surviving sibling is a sister, Louise Morris of Narrows, Virginia.

Betty was married to Estle Harrison on October 19th, 1946, at Switchback in McDowell County. They were the proud parents of five children, Ronnie, Judy, Linda, Lana and Larry.    All the children were born at home in Crumpler.  Their children remember their parents work ethic.  “They worked hard all their life, to try to make a good living for their five children.   Dad worked in the coal mines and Mother worked in department stores.   Everything was for their children.”  In her earlier years, Betty loved singing in church and playing the guitar.   She was of the Pentecostal faith.

On December 22, 2005, after 59 years of marriage Estle passed away.    Sadly, Bettys’ health began to fail.  She has spent the last ten years at the Wyoming Nursing and Rehab Center at New Richmond.    While in the nursing home, Betty loved painting pictures, especially ones of religious themes and butterflies.    Two of her paintings are displayed on the walls of the nursing home for folks to see and appreciate.  Betty received a commendation for her beautiful artwork, her photo along with her paintings were published in the local paper.   Betty made the best of what can be a most difficult situation.

Left to cherish her memory are her children and their families, Ronnie Harrison and his wife, Virginia of Key Rock, Judy Milam and her husband, Larry of Alpoca, Linda Faulkner and her husband, David of Princeton, Lana Dunn and her husband, Larry of Bud and Larry Harrison and his wife, Grace of Lester.  There are eleven living grandchildren, a granddaughter, two year old Melissa Ann Dunn has preceded in death.   There are16 great grandchildren and a large extended family on the Grose and Harrison sides.
